24-NOV-2024: THE RIDGE GC-SINGLE STABLEFORD

OUTRIGHT WINNER: CLIFF BOURQUIN [18] 39PTS C/B

Another early start for the 23 keen golfers who started arriving at 6am today at The Ridge GC.

Today’s event was on the schedule as a 2BBB but was changed to individual due to having 3 visitors which would have complicated the draw.

The members were very keen to finish the round before the heat of the day and, to enjoy the after-game BBQ and open bar tab.

The round started from the 10th tee at 6:20am and the rules for the day were yellow tees and preferred lies on fairways only. Armed with new and lower handicaps after last weeks event, the boys were out to prove that they weren’t one-week wonders.

Johnny V got the groups of in orderly fashion and sent the cooks off in the first group so that they could get back and have the food ready before the last group came in.

The course was in good condition, but most of the complaints were about the slow and bumpy greens, as well as a few stories about the condition of the bunkers. The scores today were a vast contrast to the normal 40 plus points which may have been a result of the handicapper’s axe going to work.

The outright winner today was Cliff Bourquin [18] with a steady 39 points on a countback.

A Grade was won by John Varrica [10] with 38 points. Probably a result of not losing any strokes the prior week.

The B Grade winner was Bob Mallia [18] with 39 points. Bob got chopped last week but still managed to shine with his new handicap. He has gone from C to A grade in two games.

The C Grade winner was Phil Heaton [26] 38 pts. We hadn’t seen Phil for a while, so we suspect he might have taken time off to practice. Well done.

The Guzzlers Cup winner was Dean Heffernan [18] 38 pts. Usually a great prize to win but not when the drinks a free.

We had 3 visitors today and the best of them was Brian O’Kelly [16] 32pts with the others being Brad Kennedy and Scott Young. Welcome fellas, hope you enjoyed the day.

Apologies for the absence of prizes today. Mark McSwiney had a procedure done during the week and did not play. He also forgot to remind us to pick up the prize bag. Get your “Arse” into gear Mark and make sure that you fix the winners up at the next event.

Lastly, a big thank you to Rossco Hamer, Peter Davis, Manny Petris and all the other helpers that prepared today’s feast of a BBQ. It was spectacular.

Also, thank you to club member Peter Macaulay from Bresnahan’s Butchers in Mortdale for supplying the meat for today’s BBQ. It was amazing and the service also.

The next game will be at Brighton Lakes next week, so keep an eye out for the booking sheet when it is posted.

Until the next event

Johnny V
