Today’s round nearly did not happen as it was scheduled for Wollongong Gc but due to an administrative error by them, we were not able to play there.
Our Secretary, Santo Sammarco went to work and rang many courses until he was finally able to get a late notice booking at the picturesque Calderwood Valley GC. Many thanks for your persistence, Santo.
The downside was that it was an early tee off from 6:20am, meaning that most would have to get up at around 4am to get there at that time.
18 players rolled up for the prestigious Presidents Cup event. Was supposed to be 19 but a late withdrawal by the captain Joy meant that Johhny V had the chore of starting the group off today (poor Johnny). With the assistance of the ever-willing Mark McSwiney and Manny Petris, the money was collected and the groups sent off.
Play was from the white markers, and the course was in very good condition. It did play a little short with many of the gorillas driving some of the par 4s. Some big scores were expected.
After the round it was up to poor Johnny V again to tabulate the results and do the presentation. Thank you to Michael K for the assistance.
The Outright winner and Presidents Cup Champion for 2024 is Ken Tyne. Ken played off 24 hcp, a bad knee and a great score of 48 points. Congratulations Kenton.
The A Grade winner was gorilla No1-Manny Petris playing off 8hcp and scoring 45 points. It was like throwing darts for him today.
The B Grade winner was Bob Mallia [21] with 43 points on a countback from Claude Poletti. Bobby was salivating after being given Johnny’s world class salami to take home.
C Grade went to Brian Craven with a respectable score of 40 points off 24 hcp. Brian has been missing for a short while, but the spell did him good and produced a good run to take the win.
The Guzzlers Cup winner was Michael Kabalan who is used to these easy courses and came home strong. Armed with a generous hcp of 14, Mick shot 45pts. The first person he hit up for a drink was his mate and client Santo. Well done, Mick.
The Bradman’s today had a rough time as their scores would have been podium finishes some weeks but not in today’s points fest.
A Grade- a very unlucky John Varrica ( tired from all the work he had to do) 35 points.
B Grade – Steve Vaughn who is still recovering from his Mollymook episode with 36points
C Grade – The VP Rossco Hamer was also a little unlucky with 36 points.
We also had an Eagle 3 on the par 5 – 5th hole by Santo Sammarco. It was a temporary green and he did well to almost drive it, chip on and 1 putt on a very bumpy green.
Next game is next Sunday at another easy course being The Ridge. There will also be a free BBQ put on by the social committee with the meat supplied by Pete (the butcher) Macaulay.
The Booking sheet will be posted later tonight.
Keep happy and keep swinging,
The exhausted Prez.
