2-11-2025: LAWSON/MERV PELL CUPS – SPRINGWOOD GC

LAWSON & MERV PELL CUP WINNERS: BLACKTOWN WORKERS

On this date, selected members from our golf club played against Blacktown Workers Club for the Lawson Cup and the Merv Pell Cup in an inter-club competition. The Lawson Cup has a history spanning nearly 60 years, while the Merv Pell Cup has been contested for around 40 years.
The competition was previously between up to six teams, but it now consists of Revesby Workers and Blacktown Workers Clubs, who continue to uphold the tradition.
Each club’s president selected 16 players for their team. Eight players participated in the Merv Pell Cup, which is a scratch stableford event, and all 16 competed in the Lawson Cup, a straight stableford event.
The weather was overcast and mild. The course was in good condition, although dew on the greens persisted throughout the match and affected putting speed. Revesby players had not played at this venue before.
The match started from both the first and tenth tees at 7am and concluded by 12pm, followed by food, drinks, and a presentation.
Blacktown Workers Club won both trophies.
For the Merv Pell Cup, Blacktown scored 196 points against Revesby’s 184 points. In the Lawson Cup, Blacktown averaged 37.1 points compared to Revesby’s 33.4 points.
Notable performances included Santo Sammarco, runner-up in the MP Cup with a scratch score of 31 points and 39 points in the LC, and other members who won NTPs, long drive, and drive and pitch honours.
Overall, the event proceeded as scheduled. Acknowledgement is given to Blacktown Workers Club for organizing a great event, the ongoing relationship between the two clubs, and the competitive spirit.
Appreciation is extended to members who represented the club and to the committee for their support.
Until next year,
The President
