The final competition game for the year was held at Campbelltown Golf Club, marking the last opportunity for players to secure some of the remaining trophies on offer. Among the prizes available were the coveted birdie competitions across all grades and the prestigious Player of The Year trophy.
Event Overview
A solid turnout of competitors arrived for the event, enjoying much cooler weather compared to previous days. The course was presented in good condition overall, although the greens proved to be unexpectedly slow. Stand-in Captain Johnny V, assisted by Pete Davis and Steve Floyd, efficiently organised the playing groups and the competition commenced at 7:30 am from the silver tees.
Competition Results
Outright Winner
Mark McDonald emerged as the overall winner, delivering an exceptional score of 46 points while playing off an 18 handicap. His impressive performance prompted humorous calls for a drug test during the presentation. Mark’s achievement also resulted in a 3-stroke handicap reduction to kick off 2026. Congratulations, Mark.
Mark Donovan claimed the A grade victory, continuing his strong form and becoming a familiar face on the podium. He posted a round of 41 points off a 6 handicap, finishing just 1 over par. Notably, his putting has seen significant improvement since acquiring a LAB putter from Johnny V, who jokingly remarked he should have charged more for it.
B grade was won by Jay Krishna, who has been enjoying a remarkable run of success both at his AGU club and at Revesby. Jay’s 43 points off a 16 handicap secured another impressive victory.
Brad Kennedy, a rising talent who has been playing for about a year, took out C grade with a personal best score of 44 points off a 33 handicap. Brad credited his excellent round to playing “out of his backside” on the day.
Dean Heffernan secured the Guzzlers Cup, playing off an 18 handicap and posting 40 points. Well done, Deano.
The highly sought-after Player of The Year title was also decided, with two players—Mark McSwiney and Santo Sammarco—both vying for the honour. Points are awarded throughout the season based on attendance and performance at events, and going into the final round, only two points separated the contenders. Neither player excelled in the final round, resulting in both receiving equal points for the day. This outcome crowned Mark McSwiney as the 2025 Champion with a total of 109 points. Congratulations, Mark, on a well-deserved win.
