The journey to the Gong started of quite comfortably and then as predicted, the heavens opened and visibility was very poor. It didn’t look good for our event but most of our eager golfers still made the trek to the course. The stand in Captain Johnny V’s phone lit up like a Christmas tree so he had to pull over to the side of the highway and check the flood of messages coming in. The members wanted to know if they should continue the journey or turn back home. The reply was that the course was open and carts would be allowed out and the choice was theirs to come or not.
As it turned out only 4 members decided not to play and the event continued. Luckily and as predicted, the storm clouds were blown out to the ocean and the weather was amazing. Starting of cool and overcast and developing into a bright and spectacular day. The course is always a crowd favourite and once again it didn’t disappoint. The greens were amazing, and the fairways were lush and with plenty of run.
With the initial fear of the weather conditions, Johnny V made the call to play preferred lies through the green from the yellow tees and to use your judgement on the bunkers condition.
Today’s event was the final of the guzzlers cup for which players must qualify by winning the cup at events throughout the year. There were 20 qualifiers and the competition for the award was fierce with many good scores handed in.
The outright winner today and new Guzzlers Cup champion is Mark Donovan [7] with a score of 41 points. Mark won on a countback from Mark McDonald and Jay Krishna who both shot 41 points also. Included in his round were 5 birdies which is quite a feat on those quick greens. Congratulations Mark.
The A Grade winner was Mark Krause [8] with a fine score of 40 points. Mark started his time at Revesby a little slow but, he is now warming up to demonstrate the quality player he is.
B Grade was taken out by the Big Easy, Jay Krishna [18] 41 points. Jay is very quiet when playing and likes to let his clubs do the talking. Great round Jay.
C grade was won by the man we love to call Lefty. Mark McDonald produced a great performance today to narrowly miss out on the main prize but managed to put the other c graders to shame with his score of 41 points off his 20 handicap.
The Guzzler for today and qualifying for 2026 was Ken Tyne. Ken had a score of 40 points but it was noticed that he played off an incorrect handicap of 25 instead of 23 and was revised to 38 points and still winning it on a countback. The incorrect handicap was written on his card so we will allow the result as it was not his fault and made no difference to the result.
I must remind everyone than with so much preparation being done by the captain , that mistakes can happen but it is also the responsibility of the players to check that their handicaps are correct before teeing off.
The Bradman’s today were a little hard done by because some scores would have done pretty good any other day. Today’s Bradmans were…………….
A Grade – Terry Venardos – 34 pts
B grade – Seb Ares – 33 points
C Grade – Pete Davis – 26 points.
That wraps up this week’s report and I remind our members that the club will hold it’s Annual General Meeting on Decmber 1st at 7pm @ Revesby Workers Club. We encourage our members to come along to be a part of the decision-making process and to vote for the office bearers for 2026. No-one will be roped into sitting on the committee as we anticipate no major changes, but if anyone wants to be the President, don’t be shy.
Also, you would have seen the notice for the 2026 Nelson Bay Tour Championship, and I remind those that want to come to get your deposits in early to secure your spot. The trip is half full already and strictly limited to 32 players.
Thankyou to all the members that have pledged money for the Xmas/ Presentation Day fund which helps us to cover a good portion of the hefty price tag. We will take more if anyone else wants to donate.
That’s a wrap from me and see you all in 2 weeks’ time for the final competition round of 2025 at Campbelltown GC. Keep an eye out for the booking sheet to be posted soon.
The Prez.
