2013-06-09: Rosnay GC – Stroke Round +BBQ

Not surprisingly, a few republicans didn’t show up on the Queen’s birthday long weekend to play Royal Rosnay and celebrate afterwards with a few snags and steaks over the BBQ.

The stroke event is not often played as it can cause a few headaches during play, particularly those who need a calculator when adding up their score.

Fortunately, Royal Rosnay is a short course (par 68) with flat & wide fairways, thin rough and beautiful greens that are true and reasonably paced. Mother nature must have forgotten it was now winter and gave the twenty one players who showed up a beautiful autumn day.

Expect winners to be those who are consistent from tee to green (and haven’t toasted too much in the name of the Queen during the round).

After the round, the social committee and apprentices, led by King Noel, Lord McDonald, Prince Fozzy and serf Dawko, slaved over the hotplates and served sizzling steaks, saucy sausages, corn-fed chicken kebabs and all lubricated with plentiful supply of amber nectar. The fellas did a great job and deserved a special mention in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

The food smelled so good, it even got kangaroo Rossco out of hospital to have a bite. Everyone was pleased to see Rossco recovering so well after his knee replacement in late May. If Revesby were to run a three-legged race right now, I would put my money on Geoff Hilder and Rossco as the favorites.

Congratulations to all winners for their fine efforts, in particular, the two Revesby book-ends, Brendan Vaughn and Mark Connolly, for their nett 61 score which was seven under par. One shot cost Mark the outright winner’s jersey and that was an air-swing during the round. Lets just say he lost on a count-back by a “air’s” breadth 🙂
