Spring like conditions had been experienced throughout the week and much the same was expected for the 2nd round of the Club Championships. To everyone’s dismay, the temperature was bitterly cold and for the first time in a long time , members were not so keen to be placed in the leading groups but preferring a little more time to defrost by hitting off at the rear of the field.
Campbelltown Golf Club is a long course with many hills and wide fairways complimented with generously sized greens which usually makes for good scoring. However, the course that greeted us this morning was the “Jekyll” course. Feedback from the members was about the sub-standard greens and the diabolically hard pin positions which made for a more challenging game than usual. Play was concluded in timely fashion and it was then off to the clubhouse for refreshments and presentation by Club Captain, Steve.
The outright winner for the day on a count back was Noel “Masterchef” Connolly with a great score of 63 nett of a handicap of 20. Noel also scored a HOLE IN ONE on the 120 metre par3 12th hole to cap off a truly fantastic round of golf. Well done big fella.
On the comeback trail after a so called back injury, Phil White managed to contain the pain and gain the A grade winners medal with a score of 73 nett of a handicap of 12. B-Grade was won by Matthew Campbell who also happens to be a member of CGC and with his local knowledge was able to mater the course with and equal best score of 63 nett of 18 HCP. The C-Grade winner was another player who was granted a wild card in this years event after providing a medical certificate to explain his lengthy absence from competition. Playing off a handicap of 27, John “Macca” McDonald shot a nett 71 to leave all other c graders in his wake.
The Guzzlers Cup was won by Louis “Louis Louis”Tasaico with a score of nett 70 (Hcp 23).
Bringing up the rear and winners of the Bradmans Awards were Phil Kilazoglou (A), Gary McMahon (B) and George Osterman (C).
Many thanks again to our Club Captain Steve and all of his assistants on the day which ensured another smoothly run event.
