2BBB Aggregate Stabelford

OUTRIGHT WINNERS G,OSTERMAN & R.CASSIN

OUTRIGHT WINNERS
G,OSTERMAN & R.CASSIN

Its been three weeks since the last Revesby game, so it was not surprising to see twenty nine golf-starved golfers show up today to try and make mince-meat out of Bankstown golf course. The more pessimistic, err I mean, experienced members know the opposite is more likely, with the course acting as meat grinder and the golfers the meat. Throw in extra bits of sand and wood splinters into the mince and you may wish you had stayed at home πŸ™‚

Today’s event is a 2 Ball Aggregate, where two players combine their individual stableford scores to determine the winning team. With partners selected at random, it will be hard to pick a winning pair, however, expect players from the recent Gold Coast tour to have an advantage over those who have not played in the last 3 weeks.

With play commencing around 6:30am on a cool and clear Sunday morning, players were happy to see the pins cut in somewhat user-friendly locations (code C). At least you had half a chance of getting up and down if you miss the green.

The weather forecast was for strong winds midway through the round, so everyone was keen to play fast and duck the wind. The condition of the course was very good and social-friendly, with rough cut to a minimum and greens medium to fast in speed.

Secret for a good score at Bankstown is avoid the trees from the tees, stop clunkers into the bunkers and on the greens have a fart so your putts go like a dart πŸ™‚

With all players finishing in quick time, it didn’t take too long (there were a lot of cards to process and check) before the Captain announced the winners.

The winning score, by a country mile, of 77 points went to the team comprising “Steady Eddy” George Ostermann (41 pts) and “The Assassin ” Ryan Cassin (36 pts). Both are very steady golfers, so it is not surprising to see them combine so well to come out on top. Congratulations fellas for your fine victory.

The Runners Up on 72 points went to a powerful pair comprising “Mr Consistency” John Varrica (34 pts) and “Tarzan” Gary McMahon (38 pts). Both are muscle men with the driver, and when Gary has an off-day, he can be seen swinging from tree-to-tree. Well done fellas πŸ™‚

The coveted Guzzler’s Cup on 71 points went to a enigmatic pairing of “Person of Leisure” Ken Little (45 pts) and “Koooch” Scott Algeo (26 points). With both players in the middle of swing changes, it was up to Ken to hold the ship together whilst Scott’s new swing modelled on Matt Kucher struggled to find the middle of the fairway. Both players were scratching their heads after the round, for different reasons πŸ™‚

The ignominious Bradmans on 45 points went to “Hubba Bubba” Mark McDonald (30 pts) and “The Principal” Graham Dean (15 pts). Needless to say, Graeme was sent to detention for his performance whilst Hubba Bubba started to Blubba πŸ™

One saving grace was when lefty Mark McDonald played a right-handed 7-iron on hole number one to get out of trouble. He said he hit it so crisply it had to be his best shot of the day. Could this be the beginning of a new era in golf for Mark or will he just carry a full size mirror to golf ?

Shot of the day was a monster β€œeagle” by “Mighty Mo” Jack Young on the par5 12th hole. Jack monstered his drive like a 16 inch shell from the battleship USS Missouri and followed it up with a crisply hit 6-iron to 30 cm from the hole for a tap in eagle 3.
