Happy New Year to all and here’s hoping that you were all gifted some extra special equipment that will help you find some extra distance off the tee, or maybe sink some long bombs with one of those counter balanced swing by themselves putters perhaps.
Just 15 days into the new year and our season is off and running. Sadly for our publicity officer, Ken Little, off and running meant not feeling well and leaving the course mid round due to the effects of a flu which he seems to have had since 2016.
As a result of Ken’s early exit from the event, the task of writing up this report was mysteriously dumped on the presidents table who it seems doesn’t have enough on his plate at the moment.
So please excuse this humble painters’ simplistic literary skills and hurry on back to good health Kenny because we ( I ) need you fit and well.
The first golf event for 2017, a single stableford event, saw 33 eager players roll up to Bankstown GC for a 6:28 start. Some must have been starved of golf over the holidays as they were there very early practising their putting and chipping.
One person however, was not so punctual. After getting to the course early for a stretch and putt before collecting the eagles nest money, the Prez got a call from our illustrious captain, Steve Vaughn, informing him that he had slept in. Johnny V’s warm up routine was replaced with delegation mode and with the help of two members from the match committee, Claude Poletti and Ryan Cassin, got the groups sorted and under way. Thanks fellas and Mark McDonald, could you please arrange for a loud alarm clock to be added to the prizes for when Steve might win.
Once again as we have been accustomed to, Bankstown golf course was was in terrific condition and with the beautiful morning climate made for a good scoring round.
After the round completed and a few drinks had, the captain finally did some work and announced the winners for the day.
The outright winner today was a player who during his break, went on a solo trip of discovery which he documented on Revesby’s new Facebook Page. Ryan Cassin played some 5 courses, often sleeping in the back of his ute in order to rediscover his mojo.
It seemed to have worked a treat as his score of 40 points was enough to win him the top award. Well done Ryan- a “no-mad” performance.
The A-Grade winner went to Phil White with a sound score of 38 points. Phil narrowly missed out on the A-Grade birdie comp in 2016 due to an untimely cruise organised by his good wife ( Johnny V thanks you Robin), but as usual he got off to a flying start once again with 3 birdies to start off the year. Well done Phil.
The B-Grade winner was one of our newer members with a fine score of 38 points c/b. Terry Coleman is starting to make a name for himself and I predict entry into the A-Grade ranks in the not to distant future. Great effort Terry.
The C-Grade winner was Rossco Hamer with the the second best score of the day. His 39 points might just be enough to get Rossco promoted back to where “he” thinks he belongs, in B-Grade.
The Guzzlers cup was one by Matt Campbell with another good score of 38 points. With today’s temperature rising steadily, Matt did his best to keep the fluids up courtesy of the free beers that come with this prize.
It was very evident which 3 players partied and holidayed too much over the break whilst at the same time neglecting their golf clubs.
Jeff Hilder ( A grade ) 26 points, Steph Suzor (B grade) 22 points and Steve Johnston (C grade ) 26 points, came in at the tail of their respective grades and need to do some serious soul searching before the single matchplay championship which commences next game at Campbelltown GC.
Highlights of the day:
1.Phil White sinking three birdie putts.
2.RWMGC welcomes new member Adam Shields to the club and we wish him the best of luck for the future.
Low Lights of the day:
1.Steve Vaughn sleeping in.
2. Steph Suzor amassing 8 wipes in his round
3. Steve Johnston having 4 wipes in a row.
4. Ken Little leaving early and leaving report duties for the Prez.
