It’s the start of the first lot of championships for the year, and this week we commenced the Single Matchplay, also known as The Cock of the Walk. This event is contested by the top 16 players from last season and is played over 4 weeks until there is one player remaining.
Today’s round was at the picturesque Links Shell Cove which is always a favourite. The PGA of Australis had played the regional qualifying on the course last week, so the course was in tip top shape. It was also at it’s most dangerous with lightning quick greens and diabolical pin positions. If that wasn’t enough, the strong wind and hot and humid conditions made for a real test of golf.
The outright winner today was Mark McSwiney [15] with the score of 38 points. Fresh from 5 games in 4 days in the Murray region, he must have found some of his form from last year earning him top spot.
The A grade winner was wrongly awarded to Mitch Floyd on a countback for his 36 points, but after being alerted by phone, it was discovered that John Varrica who also shot 36 points had in fact won the countback with his 25 points back nine holes which included three birdies.
The B Grade winner was Dean Heffernan [17] with 33 points on countback. Not much to say about Dean except that when he attends, he is usually on the podium. Well done again.
The C Grade winner is Brayden Harys who is on a bit of a roll at the moment having also won at the last event. Brayden [26] shot 36 points.
The Guzzlers Cup was won by Santo Sammarco [9] with 36 points on countback. Santo is also continuing from his victorious week at the Murray River trip which saw him clean everyone up.
The Bradmans were……………………..
A Grade – Manny Petris 29 points
B Grade – Mark McDonald 20pts
C Grade – Peter Macaulay 18 pts
Thank you to Joy and his helpers today for running a great event.
Until next week, keep swinging and keep happy.
The Prez.
