Today’s event was held at a course that our club has not visited for a few years.
Penrith golf club is quite a long course and a challenge for most players. It was a little tamer today because of the recent wet weather and drizzle this morning which called for a softening of the day’s rules. Preferred lies through the green and bunkers out of play and playing from the social tees, made for an easier task than normal.
This was very evident with the amount of high scores that were submitted.
The Outright winner on a countback was Brad Kennedy [27] with a cintillating score of 43 points. Brad is making a habit of the occasional big score and the handicapper is making a habit of chopping his handicap severely. Another 4 shots gone and now down to 23 hcp.
The A grade winner was unlucky to lose the top gong on countback, but you can’t take away the fact that he had an amazing round. That player was Santo Sammarco [9] who also shot 43 pts for a 2 over round of golf. Mind you he has been sick all week.
The B Grade winner was the man I like to call BP (The quiet achiever). Jay Krishna [15] goes about his business with a minimum off fuss and in the process scored 40 pts. Well done, Jay.
C Grade was won by another sneaky golfer who doesn’t play that much but seams to on the podium when he does. Jason Christie [23] also shot a fine score of 40 pts today.
The Guzzlers Cup was won by Jayden Mallia {23] with the score of 37 pts. Jayden is grinding away and we are sure that he won’t be at that handicap for much longer.
C – luke Iacona 19pts.
In the 2026 Matchplay Championship, there were 4 matches played and the results are…….
Pat Collins defeated Mark McSwiney in a play off
John Varrica defeated Joy Mesuria 2&1
Cliff Bourquin defeated Mark McDonald 3&2
Brian Craven defeated Michael Kabalan 2up
Please note that there is a committee meeting tomorrow night at Revesby Workers Club at 8pm. If you want to get there a little earlier, most of the members have a drink in the sports bar prior to the meeting proper.
Thank you and we look forward to the next round in a couple of weeks at Cabramatta Golf Club .
