8-MAR-2015: Rosnay GC - 2nd Round Club Championships (Stroke)

After the severe mauling last week at Links Shell Cove, a patched up band of 25 Revesby Brothers-In-Arms assembled to have a crack at the lightly defended and easy to traverse target of Rosnay.

With little to no anti-personnel rough, irrigation ditches and quick-sand to contend with today, focus was on avoiding the wood splintering shrapnel from the many tree-lined fairways. Naturally, the many green pill-boxes had to be taken out with as few shots as possible, as ammunition was at a premium. Some will prefer to get in close and throw hand-grenades whilst others will prefer long-range bazookas to crack open the pill-boxes.

The Revesby attack wave commenced from Hill 001 at 0745 hours under cool conditions and good light. Whilst the attack was well co-ordinated and advance was rapid, the vanguard soon caught up with a battalion of golf soldiers from another division and the advance stalled. It soon became apparent it was going to be another Longest Day 🙁

With the heat ramping up and the breeze kicking in, some soldiers began to lose the plot. Brendan Vaughn shot his drive on the par4 14th almost three fairways to the right, whilst a hallucinating George Lattouf lost his marbles after double-bogeying the par3 17th, and attempted to use a pencil for his tee on the 18th hole. When asked to comment on the unusual act, George replied he wanted to “draw” his next shot 🙂

On the other hand, the most brilliant attack came from a misfiring Kila when he bazookered the hardest pill-box at Rosnay, the par4 15th hole, for a birdie – Yippee Ki-Yay Mother Putter 🙂

The Revesby attack fizzled out in the early afternoon with most Revesby Rangers trudging their way back into the mess hall for a well-deserved cold drink or two.

There were some good results on the par 68 course today, the most notable was a revamped Mark McDonald, who shot a terrific score of 60 nett.

After taking out B Grade last week and the Outright today, Mark is in a very strong position for the B Grade Championships. His consistent performance can be attributed to better putting (square alignment instead of open) and improved ball striking with new inter-locking grip (was overlapping). Great effort Mark, in this form you will be hard to catch 🙂

The A Grade went to Greg Jones with a sound score of 65 nett on a count-back. Greg’s tee shots were not the best, but he more than made up for it with his approach irons and deft putting. A surprise result to Greg, but he leapt out of his chair to grab the prize before any one could correct the result 🙂

The B Grade went to Ian Lindberg with a fine score of 62 nett. The “iron-man” of Revesby, his tactics of using irons off the tees paid huge dividends today. A good bounce-back from last week’s poor performance at Shell Cove 🙂

The C Grade went to a Bradman Phoenix from last week (this is getting to be a habit) when a re-born Brendan Vaughn stormed in with a adventurous score of 66 nett. Like Rogers’ Rangers search for the NorthWest Passage, so to was Brendan’s performance. Fortunately, the Rosnay terrain is open and forgiving and mis-directed balls live to fight another day – a good result for a frontiers man 🙂

The Guzzlers went to a subdued Mark Connolly with a very good score of 64 nett. Mark is now counting his beers very carefully, so don’t be surprised if you get a tap on the shoulder for a cold lemonade – well played Mark 🙂

The bottom dwellers (aka Bradman Winners) were all disappointing, none more so than Johnny V who is suffering from hot/cold flushes with his game, its either win or lose and no in-between at the moment. On current yo-yo form, he is due to win the next game 🙂
