28-JUNE-2015:CAMPBELLTOWN GC-2BBB FINAL RND+ 2BBB AGG

2015 2BBB CHAMPIONS S.VAUGHN & R.HAMER

2015 2BBB CHAMPIONS
S.VAUGHN & R.HAMER

Well, it’s half-way through the year and Revesby’s 19th scheduled game is at the place Governor Lachlan Macquarie founded in 1820 and named as “Campbell Town”, in honour of his wife’s maiden name, who happened to be a member of the powerful Clan Campbell of Cawdor.

Following on from last week’s 2-Ball-Better-Ball (2BBB) Championship round at Antill Park, another large contingent of players, thirty one (31) to be exact, showed up at Campbelltown today to complete the 2BBB Championships.

Strange as it seems, the days event was a 2Ball aggregate, which meant, technically, both aggregate and 2BBB score had to be recorded on the score card for each hole. Pity the person who had to process and de-cipher all the score cards after the round πŸ™

It was good to see all players assembled on course 15 minutes before the scheduled hit-off time of 7:22am from the 10th tee, so Bravo Zulu to all players πŸ™‚

Hitting from the white tees, quite a few golfers wisely elected to use motorised carts to conserve energy and save their legs from the punishing hills. On top of that, the rain during the week had left their mark on the course, with damp, soft fairways and patchy greens being the order of the day. Quite a few players had smiles on their faces when they found out majority of bunkers were out of play πŸ™‚

The temperature was cold to begin with, so players were keen to get out of the shadows of the hills onto the sun drenched fairways in the distance. Unfortunately, there was another social golf group in front of Revesby players, and so the game was played at a snails-pace.

If the cold didn’t get you on the first nine holes then the frustratingly slow play got you on the second nine. Not surprisingly, a lot of players had a Jeckle & Hyde round, either playing very well on the front-9 and pathetic on the back-9 or vice-a-versa.

Some five and a half hours later, the shank pony brigade were able to get back and rest their aching legs and feet in the sun-drenched alfresco area of the clubhouse. A few quick drinks followed by a light snack quickly got their minds focussed on the day’s results, in particular, who got the “Rabbit Ears” ?

As predicted, the score cards took a lot longer to process than normal.
Eventually, the Captain announced the results:

Yes, the hot shots from last week were able to fend off all would-be contenders to stay, hang on, today’s event was a 2Ball aggregate, not the 2BBB Championship!

Sorry, the 2Ball aggregate results, and what a close tussle.

OUTRIGHT WINNER

OUTRIGHT WINNERS

OUTRIGHT WINNERS

Outright winners were Phil White and Rod Keen with a score of 68 points (on a count-back). Phil’s 39 individual points was a pleasant return to form and was sufficient to boot-strap his misfiring partner to the winner’s podium πŸ™‚ Congratulations fellas, good to see the team’s potency is returning !

RUNNER UP

RUNNER UP

The shock runners up, especially after last week’s performance, were the Bradman Team Aces of Jeff Hilder and John McDonald with 68 points (also on a count-back). Talk about a Jeckle and Hyde performance, I wonder what elixir they drank this morning – I want some too πŸ™‚ Well done fellas, a terrific bounce-back !

GUZZLERS CUP

GUZZLERS CUP

Unusual to see the Guzzlers go to a team with the same score as the outright winner and runners up, yep, a very happy and wet-lipped Rossco Hamer and denuded Steve Vaughn (well, he lost 5 shots from his handicap after last week’s performance) took the silver mug with 68 points (also on a count-back). A nice reward on the day, though your minds were probably focussed on another event πŸ™‚

BRADMAN

It was good to see the big fella, Noel Connolly, back in town for a game, and was aptly rewarded when he partnered Ian Lindberg to take out the Bradmans with a below below-average score of 48 points. Noel was missing the limelight and photo sessions he had grown accustomed to, so took another hit at Ian’s expense πŸ™

Now back onto the 2BBB Championships.

With Steve Vaughn driving the train and Rossco Hamer shovelling the coal, the team was like a runaway train, nothing could stop them. After scoring 48 points last week, the team was able to shoot another good score of 47 points today to amass an insurmountable total of 95 points over the two rounds. Rossco not only provided a pencil today, he actually scored a few points for the team πŸ™‚ Congratulations fellas on your fine win. Next team was a distant five points behind !

Phew, that’s it for the first six months of 2015, only another 19 scheduled games to go πŸ™‚
