WINNERS-CANBERRA LABOUR CLUB 6/3
After a lengthy break due to covid19 and last year’s bad weather, the annual grudge match between Canberra and Revesby resumed this year at Yass Golf Club.
21 Revesby players made the journey to Canberra on Saturday 27/10/23 via a bus that was organised and driven by Rossco Hamer and would eventually be driven back to Sydney by Pete Davis. The group arrived at The Pavilion on Northbourne  where they would be staying the night at 12pm. They then said goodbye to 3 members that were going straight to the pub with the rest playing a social game at Gunghalin golf club.
The Gunghalin 2BBB event was won by Troy Young & Manny Petris with a few other players winning some minor prizes.
After golf, the group checked into the hotel where they readied themselves for a night at the Ainslie Football Club for some dinner and beverage. A great night was had by all and especially by one of our members (who will remain anonymous) who left the club a lot richer than when he arrived.
A lot of weary heads arose very early on Sunday morning for the 5:45am bus trip to Yass for the main event. Canberra had not won for many years and were eager to redeem themselves this year.
As usual, the Canberra boys Led by their Captain Les Brown were once again meticulous with their planning and had the breakfast BBQ ready for us on arrival. After the usual meet and greet and friendly sledging, the teams were organized, and the event was underway.
Following the golf, the two teams congregated in the clubhouse for the all-important lunch and presentation ceremony. Many thanks also to Yass Golf Club for their amazing service throughout the day.
With all the fun and games over, it was time for the all-important results to be read out. By the grin on Les Brown’s face, it became apparent that the result was not going to be what Revesby were hoping for.
For the first time in many many years, Canberra were declared the winners by 6 Matches to Revesby’s 3 matches.
Congratulations to Canberra on their win and congratulations to their committee for organizing a well-run tournament.
Congratulations also to all the individual prize winners and to all the members from both teams for the terrific camaraderie during the weekend.
A big thanks also to Michael Kabalan for his effort in planning the event and to Rossco and Pete Davis for the bus duties. Also, thanks to Claude for helping with the tabulation of the results.
Next year we will be travelling to Mollymook where we hope to get our revenge.
The prez.
