Happy New Year to all readers, hope Santa delivered everyone the high-tech golf weapons and ammunition you need to get through another year of tournament jousting and combat on the various green battlefields of golf 🙂

The first Revesby Workers golf event of 2015 saw a return of twenty three (23) over-weight golfers hoping to shed the ham, chicken, plum pudding and ice cream from their capacious waistlines and play individual stableford at the challenging Bankstown Golf Course.

With Christmas and New Year celebrations just completed, a good many players may find their new body centre of gravity and blurry vision interfering with their finely tuned coruscating swings from last year 🙁

As usual, course conditions were immaculate, with the verdant fairways providing reasonable amounts of run, whilst the large undulating greens were in terrific condition, with speeds varying from medium-fast to fast. Flags were situated in location “C” quadrant on the greens, which meant players had a better than normal chance of getting close to the holes.

Whilst a cool summer’s Sunday morning allowed for a relaxing and comfortable start from the 10th tee at 6:15am, the forecast was for a hot and sticky humid day. Expect a few players to be happy when slicing or hooking into the trees as the round progresses, as the shade will be much sought after to escape the heat from the sun. In fact, most players are quickly learning to drink plenty of water during the round and use their umbrella for protection from the sun to mitigate heat fatigue.

The first nine holes was quickly played, unfortunately, the vanguard group caught up with Bankstown members on the back nine, and play soon slowed down to a crawl, with most players having to wait on every tee for several minutes.

After the round, the players dragged their weary bodies back into the clubhouse for a well earned drink and feed. The Captain, Steve Vaughn, quickly scanned the incoming score cards and instead of wiping beads of sweat from his forehead, he began to wipe the tears from his eyes after seeing the scores 🙂

Only a handful of players managed to play to or better their handicap.

The best score on the day went to a re-surging Jeff Hilder with a fine score of 38 points. Jeff was beaming like a Cheshire cat, now that his putting wand was working again. The secret to his new putting success, shush, its a secret so don’t tell anyone, it’s the right hand “claw” grip he used today and just like the Roman golfer Julius Caesar, he came, he clawed, he conquered 🙂

Speaking of conquerors, a centurion performance was delivered by Maximus Incredibilus himself, Ryan Johnston, who took out the A Grade winner again with a good score of 37 points. Ryan’s winning performances over the last couple of months is like what Steve Smith is doing to the Indian cricketers, just unstoppable. However, he is currently busy tracking down Santa to return his current mis-behaving “Prancer” driver, and replace it with the newer and straighter hitting “Blitzen-krieg” driver 🙂

It was good to see Louis Tasaico return from shoulder injury to take out B Grade with 34 points on a count-back, whilst the quite achiever, George Osterman, took out C Grade with a solid 35 points. Good effort fellas.

On such a hot day, all attention was focussed on the Guzzlers Cup winner, and it was a very close affair. The winner on a count-back with 34 points was Gary McMahon, and boy, was he a happy chappy. Look out next week at Campbelltown golf course and beware the McMun in the Sun as he zooms on your 6 o’clock and guns you down for a beer 🙂

Like chocolate in the sun, three Revesby golfers had games that appeared to melt away as well.

The Bradman winners are Wayne “Snickers” Coleman, Dick “Flake” Paipa and John “Kit Kat” McDonald for A, B and C Grade, respectively 🙁

It was also nice to see a visitor from Bankstown Sports Social Golf Club, Bill Leslie, show up today for a game. Visitors are always welcome (with advanced notice) 🙂

It was a good start to Revesby golf for 2015, so happy and successful golfing for the rest of the year 🙂
