Individual Stableford & 4BBB Match Play Final + BBQ

A popular course with Revesby players, the promise of a seafood BBQ afterwards ensured a good turnout, numbering twenty six members, to play individual stableford as well as the final of the club’s 4BBB Match Play.

Rosnay’s popularity is based on being a short course (par 68) with flat & mostly wide fairways, thin rough and beautiful greens that are true and moderately paced. With the recent hot weather drying up the course, expect lots of run on the fairways making the course even shorter in length. With the course conditions playing so easy, expect huge scores on the day.

With no hold-ups experienced by players, the rounds were concluded in good time before the hot north westerly winds kicked in.

After the round, the prawns and oysters were quickly devoured by all, followed by delicious hot seafood delicacies prepared by Revesby’s resident chefs (Noel Connolly & Rossco Hamer) and apprentice (Chris Foster). Naturally, the food was washed down by a plentiful supply of soft drink and amber fluid. Bravo Zulus to Big Noel, RoboRossco and Fossie for their fine effort.

With sated appetites and quenched thirsts, players now looked forward to learning who won on the day. The rumours of sizzling scores were soon realised with the announcement that the days outright individual winner was the octogenarian, Paul Hogan, who unleashed a blitzkrieg attack on the course to score a whopping 48 points. The potency of his game must have been sparked by some recent event, but whatever it was, he is still delirious over his performance and is unsure on how long the honeymoon will last.

Needless to say, Paul’s timing was perfect, as he single-handedly vanquished (with the odd contribution from RoboRossco) the strong pairing of Matthew Campbell and Ken Harris to win the 4BBB Match Play final. Congratulations to all on their fine teamwork displayed over the last several months, it took a great performance to separate the final two teams.

Not to be outdone by the oldies, the young Mark Connolly also lit the fuse under his explosive swing to post a brilliant 47 points to win C Grade. His consistent good scores are a worrying concern for the current point score leader, George La Truth-less, who has mysteriously stopped taking bets on himself becoming the point score champion.

It’s hard to keep keen golfers from the winners podium, and this week we have Rodney Keen accepting the B Grade Winners prize with his excellent score of 43 points on a count-back. The A Grade prize was again won back-to-back by Phil White with a solid 40 points. With Phil’s sore back, it just goes to show a slow and steady swing is all you need for this frustrating game.

Lastly, the shot of the day, drink-wise that is, went to Paul Dawkins when he won the Guzzlers Cup with his super 45 points. With the long hot summer starting early, this prize is literally a shot in the arm after the round.

Today’s Bradman winners (worst score) could be excused for valid reasons. Ryan was still on cloud nine after winning last week, Brendan was still suffering from jet-lag (or was it foot-lag) and Jeff’s only got one good ankle to stand on and, unfortunately, saved George from accepting another trophy 🙁
