14-12-25: BRIGHTON LAKES GC-XMAS AMBROSE & 2025 PRESENTATION

The final game of the year was held on 14 December 2025, offering a fitting close to the season. This year, the event took place at the magnificent Brighton Lakes Golf Club, renowned for its manicured fairways and large, undulating greens, followed by festivities at Revesby Greens Bowling Club.

The Christmas Day Ambrose is always a crowd favourite, bringing together members for a highly entertaining two-man ambrose competition. The course presented plenty of challenges, including water hazards on 15 of the 18 holes, numerous doglegs, and even the occasional black snake. Despite these obstacles, the atmosphere was lively and cheerful throughout the day

A total of 36 members arrived early at 6:15am, greeted by Captain Joy, who assigned teams and places in the field. Other organising committee members—John, Santo, and Michael—handled the financial arrangements. Teeing off from the 11th at 6:30am, the fun and competitive spirit set the tone for the day. To ensure fairness, teams were paired by combining low and high markers. The organisers played in the early groups, allowing them to finish first and prepare for the post-golf celebrations.

After golf, everyone headed to Revesby Greens Bowling Club for the presentation function, with the last players arriving by about 12:30pm. The awards presentation for the ambrose began soon after arrival.

  • Winners: Claude Poletti and Dean Haffernan, with a score of 62.25.
  • Runners Up: Troy Young and Craig Flint, with a score of 63.
  • Guzzlers Cup: Jayden Mallia and Michael Kabalan, with 64.75.
  • Bradmans: Seb Ares and Matthew Campbell, with 75.

Additional prizes, such as Drive and Pitch and Nearest the Pins, were awarded as detailed on the attached results sheet.

Following the presentations, members enjoyed a fantastic buffet lunch and plenty of refreshments, with free drinks available to all. The annual awards for excellence were held after lunch, recognising all champions of 2025. Congratulations go out to all the winners, with best wishes for continued success in 2026.

Peter Davis organised a variety of post-lunch games, including a ‘closest to the bottle’ contest and a chipping competition. These activities not only entertained members but also helped raise valuable funds for the club. Thanks to Pete for his effort and initiative.

This event marked the end of another fantastic year of golf and camaraderie. The next season kicks off on 18 January 2026, with the full schedule now available on the club’s website at www.rwcmensgolf.org. Members are encouraged to print or save the schedule for future reference.

Special thanks go to all committee members for their hard work and dedication throughout the year, which made this season a great success

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members and their families. Let’s make 2026 another memorable year!
