SUSPENSION OF SCHEDULE DUE TO THE COVID -19 HEALTH EMERGENCY.

RWC MEN’S GOLF CORONA VIRUS UPDATE
THE 2020 EVENTS SCHEDULE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Dear Members, as you are all aware the current health emergency engulfing our country has impacted our way of life like never before and as a sporting body we sadly have had to make some important decisions regarding the running of our future events.
Yesterday, and for the sake of social distancing rules, I started a group conversation via the messenger app with 14 other members of our committee to discuss our operations going forward.
Even though golf clubs are still open for play, I highlighted my concerns and the challenges that the running of our golf club would present. I also invited the the other members of the committee to voice any concerns that they may have. These concerns were…….
  1. We are a large group that need to congregate before and after an event making social distancing an issue.
  2. We need to handle large amounts of cash along with scorecards and prizes
  3. Carts have been restricted to one person so the numbers ordered might not be sufficient and the cost was unknown.
  4. The collating/handling of scorecards for presentation and handicapping purposes could present a health risk to those responsible for this.
  5. Without the convenience of clubhouse facilities such as food & drink would deter members in early groups to hang around until presentation.
  6. The Club Championship and leaderboard standings would be compromised due to the understandable reluctance to attend by many members
  7. Interclub competitions such as the April 19 Pig’s Arse Cup against Goulburn would be too hard and too risky to commit to.
I concluded by saying that in my humble opinion ( and I thought that I would never say this) golf is only a game and for the sake of our members, our families and the general public that we postpone our schedule until the health situation is deemed safe by the authorities.
The yes vote to suspend our operations until further notice was passed 13 in the affirmative and 2 happy either way.
Whilst it is a sad day for us, it is imperative that we do our bit as citizens of this great country to limit the chances of catching and possibly spreading this insidious disease and to come back better and stronger than before. Life will go on and we will play golf together soon.
Also , you may be contacted by by a member of our club who wants to utilise the existing bookings that we have at many courses if you would like to play on a personal level. I remind anyone accepting this offer that you must not use the Revesby Workers name or wear our club colours if you choose to accept this offer, as the attention and publicity would not be welcomed should something happen.
May you all be blessed with good health
The President.
