5-JAN-2014: 2BBB-BANKSTOWN GC

 2BBB Stableford

Happy New Year to all 🙂

The first Revesby Workers golf event of 2014 saw a welcome return of thirty players to play a 2 Ball Best Ball (2BBB) at the challenging Bankstown Golf Course. With Christmas and New Year celebrations just completed, a good many players may find their expanded waistlines and blurry vision interfering with their finely tuned swings from last year.

Fortunately, a cool summer’s Sunday morning allowed for a relaxing and comfortable round of golf. With holes mostly at the front of the greens and away from the sand moats (pin location D), the course defences may appear to be weaker, but don’t be fooled, this course will bite you every time you make a mistake. The 2BBB event is a team event which may cover up some individual mistakes, but don’t be surprised if teams crash and burn on some holes.

As usual, fairway conditions were immaculate, with the lush green fairways providing reasonable amounts of run, whilst the large undulating greens were in terrific condition with speeds varying from medium-fast to fast.

With rounds completed in a timely manner, all players congregated in the club house to hear the 2BBB results announced by the Captain, Steve Vaughn.

The Captain has wide shoulders to take on the responsibilities of the position, but today, they were even wider when he acted as swinger with George Osterman and Ryan Johnston.   And guess what? The Captain was outright winner with George on 49 points and Runner Up with Ryan on 48 points. A magnificent effort by Steve with tremendous support from George and Ryan – congratulations guys.

The much sought after Guzzlers Cup went to the BP team (the quite achievers) of Col Backhouse and Paul Hogan with a commendable score of 46 points.   Col learnt what the Guzzlers was all about when SUPERMARK tapped him on the shoulder just before the results presentation. Col is now very keen to play at next weeks game at Picton (he doesn’t know how to get there) and demonstrate to SUPERMARK how much he has learnt 🙂

Shots of the day were two eagles. Not surprisingly, the Captain got one on the 6th hole par5 (Drive+3wood+8iron) whilst the modest and mute SUPERMARK crunched his Drive and 6 iron onto the 12th hole par5 green to sink the putt for a screaming EAGLE !!!!

Another noteworthy shot was newcomer Scot Algeo winning the Drive & Pitch on the 5th hole par4 whilst completing his handicap round.   Two good shots to a tricky green – well done Scot.

It was an excellent day to start golf for 2014, so happy golfing for the rest of the year 🙂
