3-NOV-2019: HOGAN/McKEOUGH SHIELD-REVESBY V CANBERRA

LES BROWN(C) PRESENTS THE WINNING TROPHY TO CLAUDE POLETTI(R)

The 2019 Hogan/McKeough Shield ambrose event against our old and dear rivals Canberra Labour Club took place on the 3rd of November at Hilltop Golf Club in Mollymook NSW.

Each year and dating back some fifty years, these two clubs get together for one of the most enjoyable events on our golfing calendar. 30 players from each club compete in an ambrose event and whichever club wins the most matches is declared the winners.

It has been a long time between drinks for our Canberra friendsĀ  who have not beaten Revesby for many a year. In a desperate bid to cause a major upset, Canberra secretly decided to put in some extra effort by practising their teamwork at a prior event and some of their players also had games the day before. Also noticed was their unusually higher handicaps compared to past years.

With all that said, the day turned out to be magnificent in regards to the weather which was slightly overcast and the golf course was in amazing condition as usual.

Once all of the dust had settled, all of the players gathered in the clubhouse for some well earned refreshments and friendly banter which was then followed by a great feed .

The two captains then proceeded to announce the individual match results. Canberra were doing much better than in previous years and it was a nervous wait before it was announced that the two teams had actually drawn 7.5 matches a piece. Under the rules of the tournament and as the current holders, Revesby ended up retaining the trophy for another year.

Once again the event was a raging success and a lot of fun had by all that attended. A lot of work was also done behind the scenes by a few people to ensure that everything ran smoothly so many thanks must go to our events co coordinator Claude Poletti for organising the event meticulously as usual, Treasurer Steph Suzor for organising all of the payments, Mark McDonald for suppling the trophies, Joy Mesuria for his assistance, Steve Vaughn on the breakfast grill, Rossco Hamer for driving the bus to and from the event and Ryan Cassin with drink and nibblies duty on the bus.

Below are the some results by pictures.
