3-JAN-2016: CAMPBELLTOWN GC- S/STABLEFORD

OUTRIGHT WINNER JOHN VARRICA

Happy New Year to all, hope Santa provided new hope and better technology for a more rewarding golfing year πŸ™‚

Santa came visiting and fulfilled my wish for a solar-powered, gyroscopically-stabilized fog-penetrating-radar/laser range-finder πŸ™‚

Unfortunately, when the range-finder locks onto the flag-stick, it fires an appropriate electric shock that twitches all the mitochondria cells in the muscles to do more work, the bigger the distance, the bigger the shock πŸ™

Its just three days into the new year and we are already back into golf stride once again. Pity about the expanded waist-lines and resultant shift in the body’s centre-of-gravity πŸ™

Ironically, all that extra eating may slow down (or is it slow up) the golf swing and produce better shots. Come to think of it, slow down and slow up mean the same thing – isn’t the English language perplexing?
Fat chance of finding another example, you say, well, I think it’s a thin chance.

The first Revesby Workers’ golf event of 2016, a single stableford event, saw twenty four players straggle to Campbelltown Golf Course (some were still out celebrating the new year) for an early morning start at 6:15am.
Play commenced from the white tees on the first hole. The hilly course appeared in good condition with all bunkers in play. The practice putting green was medium-fast, so hopes were high that putting on the large, deceptively sloping greens would be easier today.

It was cool and eerily quiet with virtually no golfers on the course, the expected rain clouds didn’t eventuate, so players took to the course in a relaxed frame of mind. Delays on the course were minimal with players getting use to the confusing shared tee area on the 9th/16th holes.

After the round completed, the players sat outside in the alfresco area of the club, enjoying a few drinks with their playing partners whilst the score cards were collated and checked.

Once the results were locked in, Revesby’s Captain for 2016, Steve Vaughn, began to announce the winners:

The outright winner was a resurging John Varrica, who must have the personal phone number to Santa Claus, when he scored a mighty 42 points with new equipment more suited to his swing. With confidence surging, the force has awakened, but will it be seduced by the dark side – only time will tell – a kvelling effort none the less πŸ™‚

A-GRADE WINNER PHIL WHITE

A-GRADE WINNER
PHIL WHITE

The A Grade winner went to Phil White with a good 39 points, in what can only be described as an up-and-down round. After getting four birdies, one eagle and one cockatoo (he hit one), Phil also probably torpedoed one eel in the water hazard. One of his balls exited the course via the entrance road as well. Still, it was a very exciting round to watch, the highlight being his hole-in-one on the long par3 17th hole for an eagle. An awesome display πŸ™‚

B-GRADE WINNER STEVE VAUGHN

STEVE VAUGHN

The B Grade winner went to the skipper, Steve Vaughn, with a hearty score of 38 points. Shiver me timbers! Good to see the skipper out of the doldrums and plunder so soon. Lets hope the rest of the season will see a fit and salubrious skipper swashbuckling his way across the oceans of green – keep a weathered eye open matey, less ye walk the plank!

C-GRADE WINNER ALLAN TRICKER

C-GRADE WINNER
ALLAN TRICKER

The C Grade winner went to Alan Tricker with a good 39 points. After receiving a thunderous applause, Alan just shrugged his shoulders and said it was his best round of the year. Truth be told, he hit the ball very well and his new slower swing was due to his body having a much lower centre-of-gravity πŸ™‚

GUZZLERS CUP BRIAN CRAVEN

GUZZLERS CUP
BRIAN CRAVEN

The wet-me-pipe Cup (aka guzzlers) went to the Revesby Jack Tar, Brian Craven, with a yo-ho-ho score of 38 points (count-back). With no quarter given, Brian will hit any scurvy dog or bilge rat for some grog with no quarter given – “Aaargh, matey, ye be givin’ me cup o’ grog at yer own peril” πŸ™‚

The Bradman’s are pardoned as its the first game of the year, but should they lower their colors again, they will have the choice of keelhauling or walking the plank πŸ™

Shot Highlight of the Day:
We know already Phil White got a HIW (that’s how the skipper wrote it in the logs), which I assume means hole-in-won. But what you don’t know is how he did it?

Phil is a magician with his driver when it comes to par3’s varying in length from 140-to-200 metres. His mantra is why bust a gut trying to smash the ball when you can gently caress the ball. By opening the face of the driver and swinging slower, Phil was able to hit a high fading ball into the 178 metre par3 17th hole, watch it bounce twice before it bounced into the hole on the third hop. A craftsman at work :-). Check him out atΒ The Hole In One Club page

And one last ahoy, Bravo Zulu to Phil Kilazoglou for organising and distributing the new Revesby shirts today. Great looking shirt and very light, at $20 each, it’s a bargain, so thanks to the Club for subsidising the cost πŸ™‚
