The 2019 Neville Lawson Cup was hosted by Cabramatta Leagues Club and was played at Cabramatta Golf Club.

Each year, this event is hosted in turn by one of the four participating social golf clubs being Revesby Workers, Club Mounties, Blacktown Workers and Cabramatta Leagues Club. The format is single stableford and off individual handicaps submitted by each club. 16 players from each club compete but only the middle eight scores count towards the championship. The top and bottom four scores are discarded and the team with the best aggragate score wins the trophy.  Unfortunately for us, our transparency via the website puts us at somewhat of a disadvantage in comparison to some of the other clubs but we enjoy the event none the less and are proud to compete each year.

As you may or may not know, the 16 members can only be invited based on a certain criteria which is –

  1. Life Members ( because they have done the hard yards for the club for a lot of years)
  2. Current committee members (because they are doing the hard yards now)
  3. Leaderboard standings
  4. Must attend both game and presentation function.

Players arrived at 5:45 am and quickly gathered around the organisers table where they would find out who their playing partners would be and order of the tee. Rules for the day were preferred lies on fairways only and play would be from the White markers which added about 500 metres to this already difficult course. As it turned out, only 4 players from the field of 64 broke par. The course was in magnificent condition and the greens were like billiard tables, unfortunately only one pocket.

Play was finished in good time and most of the boys unwound with a few ales courtesy of the four drink vouchers issued to all prior to the game.

The presentation lunch was held at the newly refurbished Cabramatta Leagues Club. The food on offer was very good and of course more free drinks.

With the eating and drinking out of the way, it was finally time for the awards ceremony. The Cabramatta President Tom Stephens welcomed and thank all for their participation and acknowledged the various club directors that also attended the function. A big thanks to our representative from RWC  being club director Kylie Wilkinson.

Congratulations to Cabramatta Leagues Club who were announced the winners with an aggregate team score of 253 points. Runners up were Revesby Workers with a very respectable 233 points and then Blacktown Workers 210 followed by Mounties with 200 pts.

There were a couple of notable performances by our players and they were Peter Davis (B-long drive) and Steve Floyd ( best back 9). Well done fellas.

Many thanks must go to the event organisers and especially to all of our players for representing our club well.
