28-APR-2019: 2 BALL BEST BALL STABLEFORD

Winners: Claude Poletti & Phil Kilazoglou 49 points c/b

Today’s game was played at Georges River GC and was a 2BBB stableford event.

Groups are selected randomly and then the players in each group toss balls to see who their partner will be. The team with the highest points score will be declared the winners.

23 players turned up for this game at a course that is not liked by some of our members but also home to a few of our senior players, namely the Friday Rules gang that play there a few times a week and should be the hot favourites today. Then again it is Sunday and not Friday and the extra competition might just be too much for the Friday burglars.

The course was in very good shape considering that the day before they had 3 or 4 temporary greens in play. The rough was a little high so the President declared preferred lies through the green as the rule for the day.

With all the groups in the clubhouse and tucking in to the great food on offer from Gasparos restaurant, the acting captain Claude Poletti made the call and palmed off the presentation duties to the trophies officer mark McDonald who did a splendid job.

Mark announced that the winners on the day were the team of Claude Poletti [20] & Phil Kilazoglou [16] with a great score of 49 points on a count back. No wonder Claude didn’t want to do the presentation.

Claude reports that the Greek/Italian connection saw them combine well with individual scores of 43 pts for himself and 40 pts for Kila. They putted for numerous birdies but only came away with two. had they converted these opportunities the score could have been anything. There group with Gary McMahon had  a great and enjoyable day. Most pleasing was that they defeated the whinging Roscoe on a count back. He declares to all to beware because the Internationals are back.Well played boys.

The runners up were the team of Roscoe Hamer [21] & newish member Mark McSwinney [20] with the equally good score of 49pts. Roscoe has been having some year as he has been in the winners circle every second week and is currently leading the pointscore championship. Today though his 34 pts had to play second fiddle to Mark’s 41 pts individually. When asked about his round, Mark stated that he played very well for 8 pars, 29 putts and a chip in on the 3rd hole. He was a little astray with his drives but the forgiving course was to his advantage and he recovered well when needed. His only gripe was that he couldn’t hit a fairway wood to save his life.  Great effort boys.

Guzzlers Cup was won by George Lattouf and Peter Davis with a score of 48 pts. This was a bit of a disappointing result given that Peter has been on the podium almost every week this year and George is the self proclaimed king of this course and claims that he knows every blade of grass personally. then again it was a Sunday and we know that George can only play good golf on Fridays with a dodgy handicap. Never the less a good effort boys.

The Bradmans today were the team of Luis Tasaico and Ian Lindberg. I can’t remember their team score so it couldn’t have been that impressive. “Ears” to some better golf in the future boys.

Note: A reminder that this was the last game for final handicap changes before the Cypress Lakes trip on the 17th of May. Members attending this event should check the Leaderboard page for their handicaps. All the trip details have also been uploaded to the website and can be found by clicking “HERE”.

I apologise for not mentioning the NTP and Drive & pitch winners, but I somehow misplaced the results sheet.

Many thanks to Joy, Claude and Mark for their work on the day.
