20-OCT-2019: BAMKSTOWN GC-MATCHPLAY FINAL + SINGLE STABLEFORD

2019 SINGLE MATCHPLAY CHAMPION: STEVE FLOYD

This week’s game was held at Bankstown GC and it was a stableford event in conjunction with the final of the 2019 Single Matchplay Championship.

The golf course was in amazing condition due to the club championships being held there at the moment and as you can imagine, the greens were pretty fast and the order of the day was to limit one’s three putts.

Congratulations must go to Steve Floyd who defeated a gallant Adam Giltinan to take out this years Matchplay Championship by a margin of 4&2. Steve played extremely well and was 3 up after the first 4 holes meaning Adam had to chase hard in order to make a match of it. Both players executed some amazingly powerful drives and equally accurate  approach shots  that left the adjudicators in the group ( John & Claude) gasping in admiration at the quality of their play. In the end, Steve proved to be the steadier of the two and came away with a great victory over the reigning A grade club champion.

Without taking anything away from Steve’s victory, it must be said that there are a few things that can affect one’s golf game and Adam happened to self inflict one thing and lucked out with  another.

Rule number 1 is to not have a big night before a big event and by the look of it Adam certainly looked a little under the weather when he arrived at the course.

Rule number 2 is to not luck out and get in a cart with one of the eventual Bradmans. Poor Adam must have felt dizzy from traversing the course in search of Claude Poletti’s ball and watching him play three shots before even getting to his ball .

All in all it was a great final and congratulations to both Steve and Adam.
