19-1-2020: GEORGES RIVER GC-2BALL MULTIPLIER

WINNERS: ALLEN FOSTER & STEVE FLOYD 109 POINTS

Today’s event was a 2 Ball Multiplier off stableford and was played at Georges River GC.

For the uninitiated, the score is determined by multiplying the stableford scores of the two partners where scoring a four pointer to your partner’s wipe means 4 x 0 = 0 points. So the name of the game is to avoid wiping holes and having two numbers that you can multiply.

The country has been ravaged by bushfires for the past few months and on top of that we have been experiencing years of drought which has affected all of  the golf courses that we play so it was a great relief to see the heavy rainfalls throughout the week leading up to this event. As well as easing the bushfire threat a little, it also dropped some much needed rain on the fairways and dams of our golf courses.

The rain continued throughout early Sunday morning and caused many of our players to cancel their booking for this event. In the end 22 brave players showed up and were rewarded by a beautiful day for golf with the rain abating just before the start of the round and those needing carts to get around were also able to be accommodated.

Many thanks to Claude Poletti & Steve Vaughn who acted as the stand in captains for the day due to Joy’s late cancellation because of family matters. A blind draw was conducted from two piles of names matching high handicappers with low handicappers to make the event as fair as possible.

Play got under way at 6am from the 10th tee and preferred lies through the green was the order of the day.

The outright winners were Allen Foster & Steve Floyd with an amazing score of 109 points. It helps when your teams individual  scores are 46 points by Allen and 38 points by Steve. Well done boys. Oh I forgot to mention that Allen loses 2.4 shots from his handicap and will be playing of 18 in the club championships.

RUNNERS UP: MARK McSWINEY & STEVE VAUGHN 103 POINTS

The runners up for the day were Mark McSwiney & Steve Vaughn with an equally great partnership of 103 points. Once again the underlying reason for this outcome was a fantastic round had by one of the pair. Mark McSwiney had the round of his life shooting 50 individual points which contained 4 birdies and lipping out for a couple more.  Steve wasn’t too shabby either with 34 points of his own. Mark loses 3 shots from his handicap and is the newest member of A grade leading into the club championship.

GUZZLERS CUP WINNERS: WAYNE COLEMAN & CHRIS EIRTH [MIA] 80 POINTS

BRADMANS: TERRY COLEMAN & PETER DAVIS [MIA] 47POINTS
